Unlike his usual chipper self, Ren was feeling somewhat... downcast. He'd left Allen back in the room and come down to wait in the lobby while sifting things over in his mind. Talking with Allen had helped, but... to be honest with himself, Ren was a little scared. The sudden rush of feeling, the awareness of Rai which had completely overpowered him; he wasn't safe here. The people he'd met and befriended weren't safe knowing him. It bothered him on a very deep, personal level, making him shudder slightly as he pulled his knees up to his chest and rested his chin on them.
A movement in the lobby made him look up from his seat on the couch. The cloaked woman... well, was probably Satella. Lifting one arm, he waved for her attention, unable to get himself up off the couch.
Satella lifts her left gloved hand up taking a glimpse of the back of her hand. A green jewel rests on her gloved hand. The jewel shines knowing of her awareness and feelings thus far. Brushing her hair back for a moment, she catches a glimpse of someone waving to her. A young boy sitting on a couch. Maybe it is this Ren boy she talked with. Remembering his story, it felt worst than loosing her own sister to the damn hornless devil.
Bringing her arms across her chest again, Satella beings to walk towards the boy waving his hand. Once she was in front of him, she looks down at him for a moment. "Sir Ren Kimura?" she questions him curiously.
After a few moments of blinking, he shrugged briefly and looked back down at the ground. "'s just Ren, ya know. I don't have any cool position or anything."
Satella sighs after hearing him. It is common for her how to address people especially meeting them. Her eye lids lower as a soft smile appears on her face knowing she finally met the young lad, "very well, young Ren. You may call me Satella, if you like."
Satella looks around the lobby for a moment then back to him, "would you like to continue our conversation here then?"
"I'd... kinda rather things just went away, really," he murmured after a moment, dropping his head to his arms over his knees again. It was like being very tired and very scared and very angry all at once. On top of that, there was the horrible sinking feeling in his chest that he couldn't really help Satella and she couldn't really help him.
He would have to end it on his own, after all.
Eyes wide and rather pathetic, he managed to pat the couch beside himself as invitingly as possible. "...sorry. 's been a long day."
An eyebrow arch hearing his soft words. She watches him as he leans himself forward already sinking in. Sadly, Satella didn't know what experience he had during his time. Holding her elbows across her chest, Satella moves to the couch where Ren motions her to be.
She brush her long red hair as she sits down lifting her right leg over her left as she leans back. Looking at him with concern eyes, Satella begins to speak, "...it has indeed. Sadly, things won't go away just by speaking." She looks up closing her eyes remembering her past how once insistent changed all, "care to hear a story?"
It was the sort of thing Rai would say. When they were exhausted and hungry and on a cold park bench in winter, Rai had always been the sort to pull his smaller friend into his coat, curling them together while they watched the snow and murmuring with warm breath some prompt to get Ren's mind somewhere else, on something warmer and brighter and less... well, less reality.
One only had so many options to give one joy when one had no soul. Ren only wished that his joy could have been something other than these bittersweet memoties now. He didn't like that they cut him as much as they soothed his spirits.
After hearing his response, Satella tilts her head back remembering the day when she first met an odd nun, Rosette Christopher. That silly girl, quite annoying and yet entertaining at the same time. Remembering her, she let out a soft chuckle.
"During the time I took on the job of bounty hunting, I found a young nun who exorcists devils just as me. This child, when I look at her, she would yell silly things and have amounts of energy within her. This girl would be loud and take off on silly directions."
Feeling deep into thought more of this tale, Satella rests her elbows on her laps binding her fingers together as she leans forward resting her chin on top of her hands and continues, "...but there was one thing I did not like of her, with her she had a partner..." her eyes glare looking ahead with a disturb look, " a devil."
Ren's back straightened a hair as he tilted his head, watching her properly now. This was why the two of them had needed to talk, after all; they worked in something of the same field. What bothered him was this idea of a bright happy person who helped destroy devils (Diabolo, devil, whatever one wanted to call it) being joined with the very monster she wanted to kill.
It was the story of his own life, in more ways than one. He leaned toward her slightly, waiting to see if there were more.
Her eyes trail towards him watching his reaction for a moment. A soft smile appears watching him leaning towards her. She wouldn't blame the lad, she was a bit surprised as well remembering that time. Her eyes trail forward again as she continues.
"The both of them worked for the Order of Magdalene who are experts on exorcism in the church...I was surprised as you. A devil? In the Magdalene Order? What the hell were they thinking? That..is what I asked. The devil called himself Chrono. This devil, when I first laid eyes on him I thought it was the same devil that killed my family and stole my sister away. In my world, a devil's power source were within their horns. You rip off the horns, their powerless-unless they sign a contract with a human. The devil that killed my family was also hornless too."
She pause for a moment describing the detail off subject going back to the girl, "Sister Rosette signed a contract to the devil Chrono."
Ren's eyes were wide now with something like wonder. He knew all about accidental contracts: his own had been a simple misunderstanding, young children's minds not focusing on what was really happening around them. But to willingly, knowingly commit oneself to any aspect of the Diabolo...
Even the fallen he and Rai had been saving hadn't yet gotten so low.
Satella's eyes glance back at Ren giving him a nod, "..she chose to when she was young as well, to save someone close to her as well, her brother." She tilts her head forward trying to remember more of what Rosette told her, "...an occurence happened in their home. The hornless devil I'm hunting was there. He took the boy away from her. I do not know the details, but you can say he as well fell under of that devil's spell."
She pause for a brief as she lifts herself up and lays back as her hands drops on her lap. "The poor girl..." she murmured to herself. "When you make a contract to a devil, they feed on the soul of the contract to cast magic or fight. In other words, she had a limit of herself to find her brother before her time is up, just as the same with the devil and yet...she remained her joyful self."
...to save someone? Well. Ren knew all about that.
He couldn't remember exactly what he'd told Satella about himself and his condition. It was remarkable, however, how well this tale coincided with his own. Frowning a little, he tried to interpret her message in the retelling of this tale.
Perhaps he wasn't strong enough? Not able to smile all the time and therefore too weak to truly accomplish his goals?
A shudder passed through his body, making him glance toward the door. No Rai... no Nebiros. For the moment.
"...it's really hard, though," he explained softly, biting the corner of his lip. "It's so empty without a soul. And even that one thing that gives you joy... it's gone before your time is up. How... it's so much harder to smile now."
Her eyes trail towards him hearing Ren speak. This boy, he felt crushed when his soul was taken. Though she knew a brief of the story he told her, Sister Rosette reminded her of him. Instead, almost felt broken. Satella has been with the two from her tale for quite a while especially running into each other.
She lifts her head towards him with a gentle smile after hearing him, "...because she only looked forward, and put her faith to her watch. When you truely believe in something, your mind is set to your goal. Each day little by little, her life drains."
She pause for a moment looking up again closing her eyes, "Sadly, I must admit. Even the devil Chrono effected her, in a good way. He kept her company through their journey, and assisted her on fighting other devils."
"Maybe it feels empty with out a soul but..if you look ahead to your goal, your dream...maybe the result of your journey will give you that joy."
His dream... his dream was to kill his best friend. Ren frowned slightly; he was hardly looking forward to that goal being achieved. Even the joy he sometimes felt at the thought of the two of them finally being free was sometimes hard to see.
"...I have a story too," Ren murmured after a moment, contemplating the floor thoughtfully. About making something your goal until you're blind to everything else. I knew a girl named Chiaki..."
The young woman's eyes trail to Ren hearing his murmured. He has a story as well? This boy, he still looked afraid. His goal is to save his friend, right? How hard can one do to achieve their goal? This has puzzle the woman's mind.
You're blind to everything else...this one sounds intriguing, she thought. Satella gently nods her head forward having Ren's attention now.
