"...do you doubt that?" he asked, glancing down at her briefly before shaking his head. "I shall be decidedly happy. I should have thought that much was clear..."
A quiet smile played over his lips as he rested his head against hers, soaking in her warmth and affection much as a kitten does when curled up upon its master's lap.

For once, things were comfortable. It was like those rare days he was allowed to lounge in the sun, his sister curled against his side as they dozed lazily, storybook lying forgotten beside them, not to be disturbed until Riff brought them their afternoon tea. Sitting here this way, comfortably hugged by and hugging Arietta, feeling the new radiation of peace and calm coming from her, he was starting to get a similar feeling.
Things could work this time. This friendship could last, could mutually support, could keep them both sane while life continued to pound them.
Merry would like Arietta, more than Emmeline, most likely. Then again, Emmeline rarely liked anyone. And Merry would understand if Cain slipped off to see this girl, to hold her quietly while she cried or to sit with her this way in silence. All signs pointed toward things working out very well for them.
"...and... do you want to come with me?"

For a moment, Cain was completely blindsided by the smile. His mouth opened to reply, but nothing came out. Slowly, almost absently, he began to return the smile, letting the joy creep lazily over his lips.
"If you don't mind entirely. There's a man I have to see about some business. But... here."
He pulled one arm from the loose grip around her waist, rumaging briefly in his pocket and pulling out his key. It would be a simple matter for him to break in if he needed to, but the young lady should have the opportunity to go through the door like a proper human being.
"I may be a while," he explained, offering her the key.
[[ooc: I'm sure it'll be fun poking Riku-mun and Sora-mun about this new development. xD]]
"I may not be back until morning, if he detains me," Cain reasoned quietly. His hand went to her warmed cheek, fingers brushing lightly at the last evidence of tears still staining her cheeks. "I owe this friend a good deal of money... it may be difficult to convince him we're square. I can give you directions," he added, tilting his head to the side, bangs shifting into his eyes a little. "Unless you really don't mind the wait."
Arietta wasn't fond of the idea of wandering around in a place she knew nothing of, by herself.
"I'll wait," she repeated. There wasn't much Arietta could do for Cain on his errand of business, so tagging along wasn't something she was going to do.
Once Cain's hand reached out for her cheek and placed itself there, Arietta tears finally stopped. She could feel a headache coming on from crying so long.
Still smiling, Cain nodded, accepting her choice easily enough. His fingers continued to ghost her cheek briefly, pleased that her tears had stopped while he was still there to appreciate it.
"I'll try not to be long, then."
Which was mostly true. He wasn't entirely sure of Ayame's intentions toward him (although he suspected that they were less than honourable; que sera...), but whatever the outcome he sincerely doubted he'd be able to hurry back instantly to her side in the near future.
Ah. That time again. The one where they had to move in order to carry about the rest of their plans.
He always hated that time.
Sighing softly, Cain took the lazy route and pulled Arietta back in for a quick hug. That would either make things easier or impossible. Either way, it was moving in SOME direction.
And he got a hug out of it. Nothing wrong with that.
Eyes lightly closed, peaceful smile flickering over his lips, Cain could help but tilt his head sideways inquisitively, bringing Arietta's with him by the slight press of their foreheads together.
A quiet smile played over his lips as he rested his head against hers, soaking in her warmth and affection much as a kitten does when curled up upon its master's lap.

"You did... but I wanted to hear it."
There, for once, fate played the cards in her favor. She was happy, Cain was happy. They were both able to share in the things they needed in life.
Arietta smiled. She wasn't sure if Cain could see it since she looked over his shoulder, but she was sure he could feel it and her happiness.
[[it's okay because I'm totally not done with my paper. I will be soon though]]

She accepted the key, but wasn't sure why it was given to her. Arietta wasn't following Cain just yet, so she didn't know where he was staying.
"I'll wait," Arietta said clearly, "...for you to come back..."
[[haha, I believe it will.]]

Now it would be the question of who would move away first.

The young God General pulled away and placed her forehead against his.
"Thank you."

And it was as simple as that, as she smiled herself.
