Digimon Data Squad or Savers or whatever the hell it's called is absolute and total bullshit, not to mention an eyesore.
One of the defining elements of Digimon is the children-digimon team system, and when you replace the kid with a teenager (with anger issues, to boot), things get a little weird. What took things from weird to downright offensive was the fact that the digimon in Savers were treated and even behaved like slaves. They worked not with humans, but for them. And whimpered and whined and cried because they couldn't do anything without some human backing them up.
I'd harp on the storyline, but I only watched about half an episode, so I can't really tell if things get better or not. But honestly? I don't even care. No storyline is brilliant enough to make me turn a blind eye to all the things that are just plain wrong about Savers, starting with Masaru bullying Agumon and ending with the atrocious artwork.
Fortunately, the good people of . . . that company that makes the Digimon anime, whatever their name is, made Digicross (Digimon Xros Wars), and while it's not quite the level of awesome that Digimon Adventure was, it's definitely way better than Savers.
For one, the art reminds me of the good old days when Digimon was still beautiful enough to make me weep. The storyline is okay, even though it's more suitable for a video game than an anime, and the characters are likable enough. And yes, the main character is still Taichi Yagami, or rather another one of his clones. They didn't even bother to cover that up with too much CG makeup this time: his name is Taiki, has brown hair, white gloves, shorts and goggles and is super-brave and whatnot.
The new digimon are cute enough, but they make me think of mechas rather than animals and that's probably the only complaint I have so far. But then again, I'm only at episode 7, so who knows? Maybe something atrocious will happen soon and I'll lose all faith in humanity.
Until then, though, I'm enjoying this new Digimon.
Samu out.
