Creative inertia

I've been working at/with/for the bank for a little more than a year, and now I kind of understand why people like to blame the corporate world for the death of personal creativity. I don't think it's fair to say that the corporate world is directly responsible, but as a corpie drone, one has very little time and very little inspiration to write or produce anything of aesthetic value. Granted, some people might see the beauty in cooking up financial esoterica, but I'm content with brewing myself a fine cup of coffee.

I thought it would be easier to update this journal after months of being away, but it's actually harder, because I don't know what to write. Updating everyday gives the writer the proximity advantage, in the sense that the events of the day are much closer than the events of a big block of three months.

In the last three months, I
- gave up a lot of my free time to study for the CFA level 1 exam, and PASSED the damn thing (I would have been devastated if I had failed after all that studying)
- finished making payments on my computer, Miguelanxo II (it's finally mine, all mine)
- learned that MS Excel can be a very, very awesome thing
- saw two good friends pack up and move away
- paddled around an entire ISLAND in a not-very-seaworthy two-person kayak, through whirlpools and boulders, in the OPEN SEA

proof:

(picture blurry due to fear and big waves)

- learned to use an espresso machine and my brother's DSLR
- wrote something in my notebook
- lost all files created after June 2007
- bought a portable HD for backup purposes and reactivated my Box.net account
- moved - down the street
- went back to Malaysia
- rediscovered the Sims, but can't figure out how to load the expansion packs
- started reading gossip blogs, oh no
- planned a few trips
- set foot in a gym - thrice
- sent a few postcards here and there
- and finally got myself a copy of "The Doll's House" to complete my Sandman set (even if it's got the new cover and doesn't match my old covers).

Life is steady, but I think I should try and do something more with it.
