The nights grow longer and colder as the journey progresses. She buys blankets off a couple of the men who are more inured to the cold and huddles under them, fully clothed, when she sleeps.
It would be easy to Firebend to keep herself warm, but she hasn't done it since her escape. She hasn't bent anything but earth while in the Earth Kingdom and she won't bend anything but water until she's mastered that element. It's a precaution against discovery.
