Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Mainly the automobiles part of the above. I did end up making it home to Greensboro for Father's Day, through an only slightly complicated method. Renting a car proved to be less expensive than I thought; picked up a 2-day rental from Alamo for $33.05 total out the door. The reservation was for a compact-class car, but for no apparent reason I got upgraded two car classes when I got there, and ended up with a brand-new Chevy Malibu. Yes, apparently Malibus and I do get along. Nice car, though a little lacking in the power department (4-cylinder in a decent sized car does not do much for acceleration). In order to get to the airport, as that was the only rental location open on weekends, I ended up taking the TTA bus. That was pretty painless also; got on across from D.H. Hill, took the #101 bus to the main TTA facility out in RTP, and then the #747 bus to the airport. Took about 40 minutes total, so it wasn't terribly fast, but it was free and relatively easy.

Once in Greensboro, made it to the Grasshoppers (Greensboro's minor-league baseball team) game, tickets etc. to which were my Father's day present to Dad. Good time, though they ended up losing 8-5. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that their infield basically sucks. The new ballpark that they moved into last year is damn nice though. Big for a minor-league park, too, capacity is around 10,000. Missed the first 2 periods of the hockey game while there, which apparently I didn't really need to see. Though I was fucking shocked when I noticed that Cole was out there...the ESA is going to be absolutely crazy when he comes out on Monday. Hopefully the home crowd, thus energized, will help the 'Canes get things turned around. No more chances after this...Let's Go Canes!
