My contacts with the scientists show indications of madness. One seems quite insane, and the other rather enjoys our plight.

If they possess the capability to kidnap so many people - some of whom, apparently, possess very powerful abilities - I would imagine extensive knowledge of their subjects is necessary.

Perhaps the theory was created in order to placate - to some extent - the nerves of the citizens, as I can imagine quite a few other reasons for bringing people here, all of which are much more sinister.
