Singles Awareness Day happened again! And on this end it actually didn't suck. I know it did for some of my friends, and one of them was suspiciously silent all day - either she was 1) really busy, 2) really busy and in a bad mood, or 3) she was hiding from me and didn't know what day it was anyway. ;c) I shall find out tomorrow because the latter option is simply not acceptable! heh.
So I made cards for the family, and they got me daffodills, because those stupid lil' flowers are awesome. And I made lunch!! And LUNCH WAS AWESOME. Look! I show you!
What is it? Hazelnut chicken.
In olive oil, brown finely chopped, toasted hazelnuts. Add powdered orange peel and garlic powder to taste. This will get burned real quick so I added organic chicken broth and let it all cook together, pretty much carmelizes nicely. I stirred it around occasionally to be sure burning doesn't happen.
Then I added the chicken strips. Browned the chicken, then left it to steam. Probably about five minutes before they were done, I coated one side of the chicken strips in honey and let it steam in until cooked through.
Served up on a bed of lettuce, the sauce from the pan in place of dressing, it sure looked pretty, IMHO. LOL!! But OMG it tasted so good. I'm doing this again. Often.
We ended the day by mom, sibling and I going to pizza and a movie. Dad's out of town for the night, alas, but he'll be back tomorrow. I don't think he missed us, he didn't call once. LOL!
The movie Valentines Day was really good, BTW. If you're a fan of 'Love, Actually' then you'll like this. Same format of following a bunch of friends around for the holiday, but this movie was much funnier and the CAST WAS THE BEST EVAR CAST in the world. Very smart script, wonderful acting, and funny. Very feel good despite all the times the crowd was yelling at the moron characters on the scream "NO! DON'T DO IT!" because it was all funny and you fall in love with the charas from the start. Did I mention it was funny?
Also... Sibling and I killed time waiting in line - wrapped out the theater door, go figure - by trying to cast a movie version of Team Fortress2. (It'll never happen, but twas an amusing way to pass ten, fifteen minutes.) I'm going to put thought in to this project again someday, because it seems like it should be an easy one, and yet we couldn't agree on a single pick!
