New Years Eve 2004-2005

New Years Eve, 2004-2005...another night where depending on who you talk to there is always another story, another detail, and probably a thought they left out that may be better left unsaid.

The biggest problem for me about this New Years was that I had to work both the night of and the day after. Luckilly, Best Buy closed early leaving ample time to celebrate I was lucky this year. In the previous years, I never really did anything cool for New Years Eve. Traditionally, I sat home watching my parents pass out before the ball drops, one time I saw a movie, and last year I went to a rediculously bad New City party after my trip to Maryland with Pat fell through and puncing a hole in my wall. I haven't had the best of luck. This year though, I have a story...it's not overly epic, but it's the best I've experienced thus far.

It started with meeting my friends at the mall near the end of my shift.  Vanessa, Scott, and Rich came together and waited for me to get out. My superviser had told us it wouldn't be long till we got out because she herself had plans and reservations. Sounds good to me. But, like usual, we spent too much time after the store closed completeing srupid and useless tasks.

Whatever, we finally got out and I met the 3 outside Best Buy in the mall. Jerry found us as well to complete the set. We traveled to my car which was parked at the furthest row of cars outside the Best Buy parking lot (the days after Christmas are probably worse than those preceeding it. I awkwardly changed my pants before getting on the road to the Tarrytown Train Station. As expected there were a horde of people waiting for the train. We almost missed the damn train due to Rich trying to wait on line and buy a ticket from the machines.

On the train, we met with a group of kids who were going to see String Cheese Incident and we're already pretty drunk. Figures since you can't bring booze into a venue like that. I know Buckethead was playing with Particle for New Years as well, which I'm sure would've been great, but one of the only things that excuses missing Buckethead is spending a night getting drunk with a group of my closest friends.

Skipping ahead, we all ended up at Sammy and Aaron's apartment in Brooklyn. I'd say it wasn't any later than around 9PM. Sammy wouldn't be arriving till close to 12 since he's playing a show at fucking Carnegie Hall!! Anyhoo, the party had hardy even begun yet. Dan "100dbs" Brenner was there with his laptop/DJ deal set up. He was playing warm-up music. Aaron was there playing host, Pat was there with his girl Nina, and a few others scattered around and leaked in.

We started things out soft and smooth as Jerry brought and shared a bottle of Grey Goose...something which I have been needing to try but hadn't yet. I had a glass of that straight. More people poured in, Maria was there, Matt from the Oggs came with his girl, Adam "The Fozz" was in attendence (though this time without his girl Eve)and even Matt Siegel + friend were there for a while.  The cast was grand but a few essential people were missing: Evan, who is out on his own adventuring in Japan, Dan Muhlenberg, stuck doing the rehab thing, and last but not least Ed who was stuck at home.  Maybe next year, my friend.

So people trickled in and it started to get packed like it should between 10-11:30.  Some of Pat's myspace randoms were there, some musician friends of Sammy's, Sammy himself, and even Charlotte (of the old Bacldoor stuff, etc) showed up.  Last time I saw her was over a year ago at Putty Root's first show at L'amour also in Brooklyn (R.I.P.).  She didn't recognize me due to my hair.

Drinking ensued by all, dancing by most.  100dbs dropped an array of beats and hiphop decent enough to dance to (including a hint at his Argyle Album).  It was slightly depressing that about 90% of the females there were taken (and at that their with their boyfriends)  and the other 10% were either hogley "110s" or too-hopped-up-on-speed hipsters.  There was no love for me that night, and no kiss at midnight (or any other time, as others tried to say otherwise).  Despite thes difficulties, I danced with friends as much as possible.

At around midnight, it was up to the roof.  The apartment has no cable so we couldn't watch the infamous ball drop.  Oh well.  There were tons of people on the roof, and even more on the next roof over.  Cheers and yells were traded between the two crowds, as other fluids projected to the ground below.  It was cold, but alcohol served as warmth and thanks to Adam, some wine.  There were a few fireworks.  Back downstairs to finish the liquor cabinet.

We lost Pat for a while (apparantlly he was out regretting he ate rice before drinking, ahem), the line to the bathroom was long, and the music blasted.  This went on till the early hours of the morning.  Daveo popped up out of nowhere as did Mike Numan (whats a party without this cat?)

I spent the next small portion of the night sitting in the keg room with Vanessa and Rich and Scott listening to periodic bumping-and-grinding above us (thanks Pat and Nina...the big 5, I suppose).  I forget what we talked about, but I'm sure it wasn't overly important.  Most of the crew stayed over at Sammy's in various craks and crevices but Jerry and I left around 5-6ish I'd say.  We got the first train back to Tarrytown headed towards the light.  I think we bothed dazed/dozed off for a bit on the train, but we both ended up home safe and I even got a few hours worth of sleep before work the next morning.

In conclusion, despite there being no love for Kevin at the party it was the first New Years that will stay in my memory (and hopefully starting a trend from here on in).  Other friends got theirs, weither it was expected or not, in-party or out.  A bunch of people puked, though thankfully for the most part it was out of sight for me.  New Years, grey Goose, Friends, Music, Fireworks...works for me.  Thanks to all involved.
