Interesting fact of the day:
According to the official record, Lawrence v Texas, the case which eventually led the Supreme Court of the United States to declaring sodomy laws unconstitutional, started when the police arrested John Lawrence and Tyron Garner for having consensual sex in the privacy of Lawrence's apartment.
In reality, there probably was no actual sex involved.
Garner's drunk and jealous boyfriend, Robert Eubanks, secretly called the police and claimed Garner was waving a gun around; the police burst into the apartment. They didn't find a gun, and Eubanks admitted he'd lied. Lawrence, also drunk, got angry and aggressive; the police arrested Eubanks for making a false report and decided to punish Lawrence and Garner by arresting them for supposedly having sex - and continuing to have sex even after the police told them to stop.
Now, years after the case, Lawrence openly claims the police didn't find them doing anything more than watching tv in their underwear, but their defense lawyers carefully insisted Lawrence and Garner not deny the sex had occurred.
