Love Letters to Theta, age 6
Dear Theta,
Please don’t cry. I can feel you crying. Your cousins are stupid. You’re a Gallifreyan same as the rest of us. They’re just jealous that you grew inside your Mother and they didn’t. I know I am. I don’t think it’s gross at all, I think it’s so cool. You got to listen to her heart every minute you were inside her. You heard her talking and felt her doing stuff and I don’t know, just everything I guess. No wonder you love her so much. You’re a part of her, like a finger or something. Okay, that sounds a little weird, but cool weird. And I think your belly button is special like you are. It’s kinda cute like you are too. I wonder if every regeneration you’ll have will have a belly button? I hadn’t thought about that until now! Hey, can I touch your belly button when you come over? You never let me before. Does it hurt to touch it? The book I read said it’s a scar. That’s kinda cool too. You’ve got a scar already. And the book said it only took you nine months to be born instead of a year and a day to be loomed! See, you were fast even then!
They know you’re smarter than them by tons and that’s why they pick on you. They don’t pick on Brax as much as you and he’s half Human too. (Okay, he doesn’t have a belly button, but still...) That’s ’cause he’s just as stupid as they are. I know he’s your brother, but he’s not anything near as smart as you, so he gets along with the rest of them. You should’ve been my brother ’cause you’re just as smart as me almost. And then we’d live together in the same house. And your Mother would be so much nicer than mine. She bakes biscuits. With blackberry jam in them. Just for me and I’m not even related to her! You have such a neat Mother, Theta. And you’re so sweet just like her.
It’s gotta be weird having so many relatives. I mean, I do too, but they don’t all live here. Just my uncle and his daughters but they’re ancient. No wonder you like staying over so much! I wish we lived together all the time. At least Nanny and your Mother are sisters and we see each other every day. I wonder if Nanny’s going to have a born baby someday like your Mother did? I wonder if she’ll let me watch? That would be brilliant!
But don’t let them make you cry, Theete. They’re so not worth your tears. I wish I could make them cry like that. See if they like it! You’re the best friend ever. And I miss you all the time. But I don’t like to feel you crying, okay?
Nanny says you’re coming over for tea but she’s going to put this letter in the box anyway.
I love you,
Koschei
