Love Letters to Theta, age 41

Dearest Theta,

Come and leave your gloomy mood behind, love. Don’t you know that you will never be alone? I will always be with you. Nothing can ever take me away. And as long as that’s true, what does it matter these premonitions that have tormented you for so long? Remember that no matter how alone you feel, you have always seen me there with you. To the end of time, you’ve told me and I believe you. Forever Theta and Koschei.

I don’t pretend to understand what you saw when you were eight, just as you can’t know what I heard. All I know is that it haunts us both. I hate that we can’t manage to reach in and comfort each other’s pain from that night. But somehow knowing how profoundly it affected us both draws us closer, even though we can’t share it.

Don’t be frightened, Theete. You are not alone.
