I think it would work very well as a trail food, now you mention it....

Currently, the puppy is eating raw chicken from a local farm (about a pound, split into two meals), a cup of Acana Wild Prairie or Orijin Regional Red (per meal), and I'm using the Orijin/Acana dehydrated meals as treats, as well as natural baloney/hot dogs (primarily because they're usually made from organ meats and random non-meaty bits of the animal).

I've tried taking her off the raw, but it really is the best in terms of calm demeanor, shiny coat, good digestion. She recovered from the parvo in only a day and a half at the vet's, which the vet told me was pretty much unheard of for her--at that time she was 100% raw. I don't have the freezer space to do full-on raw with proper organ meat/offal rotation, plus it's disgusting, so I'm happy with this particular partial version. She also gets plenty of recreational raw bones. Her teeth are--amazing. There's zero tartar at all. The only downside so far is that her nails grow like CRAZY, so I'm always trimming 'em.

Also, it probably sounds like an insane amount of food, but she's at least 80+ lbs and remains super active.
