Worst U.S. shooting ever kills 33 on Va. campus

What amazes me is not even the University's slow response (2 shot dead, suspect on the run, not gonna interfere with classes, right?), but that this happened as police was (or should have been) present on campus, investigating the previous murder.

I am a university student as well, and so I know the rules. One is not permitted to bring a firearm on to the University property. That's because the police is supposed to protect you, right?
Actually it turns out, not really:

Quote from Publicrights.org: Police have no legal duty to respond and prevent crime or protect the victim. There have BEEN OVER 10 various supreme and state court cases the individual has never won. Notably, the Supreme Court STATED about the responsibility of police for the security of your family and loved ones is "You, and only you, are responsible for your security and the security of your family and loved ones. That was the essence of a U.S. Supreme Court decision in the early 1980's when they ruled that the police do not have a duty to protect you as an individual, but to protect society as a whole."

"It is well-settled fact of American law that the police have no legal duty to protect any individual citizen from crime, even if the citizen has received death threats and the police have negligently failed to provide protection."
Well...fuck.

I was trying to think about what I would do if something like that happened in my University. At home its simple, I run to our loaded rifle, take off the safety and I have 30 rounds to unload into whoever comes in uninvited. But the only thing you can do in situation like in Va. campus is jump out of 3rd floor window I guess.

I applaud students who were able to do something: "The gunman left that classroom and then tried to return, but students kept him out by bracing the door closed with their feet."
