"So Damn Twisted"

I am not a spontaneous person. Everybody who knew me in Kingwood knew this was true. I wasn't alarmed when things came up unexpectantly, I just prefered everything to be laid out in front of me. I was a planner.

But yesterday what pretty damn spontaneous. Last night at around 8:30, I'm hanging with Emily and Graham, and all of a sudden Morgan arrives to collect Emily, saying they're leaving. 'Well, where are you going to?' Graham and I naturally inquired. 'Into LA, to see a hip hop show.'

WHHHHHHA-?! was our general reaction.

So, in a span of five minutes, I borrowed some money from Topher and we grabbed ID's and were off. Whitney, Morgan, Corkey and Tony were in one car and Walker, Graham, Emily and I were in another. And we took of to LA, at 9 on a Tuesday night, I knowing full well I should be reading 100 pages or so of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius...and also knowing full well that I didn't really care.

Walker's from LA, so drove there with relatively no problems, even though it was raining. We listened to the Beta Band and Flaming Lips and chatted.

It struck me as so odd - that I, of all people, was doing this. The most unexpected time, and all of a sudden here we are, in LA, in Hollywood. Suddenly I'm on the famed Sunset Blvd., and none of it to be premeditated? It was one of the greatest feelings in the world.

I think to myself - this is what college is. Sure, it's the stuff you learn in the classroom. But it's the interaction with new people and places and experienceus that makes it special. Years from now, when I look back, I probably won't remember what we talked about in seminar today. I'll remember that I went into LA with a bunch of friends to see my first hip-hop show ever.

Graham said that the atmosphere at these types of shows are so much more intense than rock shows. And even though it was a small club, and there weren't a ton of people, the atmosphere was really pretty awesome. It was a 'Hip hop for humanity' show, and they were playing Farenheit 9/11 on a projector. It was pretty chill. Each person on the stage was an artist. Some acts left us with bitter tastes in our mouths, so to speak. But two acts were so dope - the Literates and a girl called JRoz (I bought her cd) -they were poets.

I was just so glad I took a risk and had that experience. It was pretty fucking tight.

We got back at 2:30, so I wasn't that excited about class today. I decided to take a chance and cut my first class - Philosophy, so I'd be able to function in the other two. It was pouring outside anyway, so the universe appeared to be agreeing with me.

Turns out, 11:30 rolls around and Jordan calls me and says "I just walked all the way to the Hall of Letters in the rain and class is cancelled."

SCORE! Although, this doesn't exactly teach me a good lesson. The reason why I'd never cut a class is cause I knew that once I ditched I would realize that I COULD ditch, and that wouldn't yield good results. However, the universe instead acknowledged my plea for extra sleep. I'm a lucky lucky bastard.

So, um, in conclusion, life's pretty good. Except I have quite a bit of reading to catch up on, and still one more class to go. I'll take tonight easy...or will I? >=D

Today, I do believe, Corkey's gonna give me a haircut. Tomarrow my dad comes!

-I love life-
