Wow. Wednesday features a very new-show heavy lineup, and somehow The CW of all networks delivered the first pink slip of the season. Has FOX turned over a new leaf?
Hank - You already know whether you like Kelsey Grammer. If you do not, then skip this one, because it has absolutely nothing original to offer. The closest thing to a saving grace was the Blue Collar brother-in-law getting the better of Hank, rather than being played for hillbilly humor. C.
The Middle - Ryan thought this was marginally better than Hank. I thought Hank was marginally better than this. Regardless, we agreed that both were garbage. C-.
Mercy - I'll confess I couldn't bring myself to watch this one. Everything I've heard on the subject suggests that it's terrible, though. N/A
Glee - The pilot was rather painfully piloty, so it took me a while to get around to the second ep. Turns out, it's pretty funny and generally entertaining. I have trouble buying into some of the characters, but Jane Lynch is brilliant, and the OCD teacher is also quite good. B.
The Beautiful Life: TBL - Canceled before I even had a chance to review it. I guess "the show so utterly mediocre they named it twice" didn't have quite the right ring. N/A.
Modern Family - On the other side of the 9pm line, ABC actually scores a couple hits. This one has a lot of different things going on, and I think there's something for everyone to like. That means that there's also something for most people to dislike, but I found it laugh-out-loud funny. B+.
Cougar Town - Far, far better than it's title. If you've been avoiding it on that basis, or on Courtney Cox's run on Dirt, then you should reconsider. I liked basically everyone in the cast, except maybe Handsome Neighbor, and the writing is nice and tight. B.
