Fit for EY

The first week of my internship is nearly over and it's time for a quick update.

I came back to Ingolstadt on Sunday and there isn't really much to tell about it. Unfortunately, I forgot my favourite pillow in my bedroom at my parent's which, together with being extremely nervous, led to a night without sleep. I got up at 5 to get properly dressed and to be in time for my train to Munich. That bit of the day worked fine. But as soon as I arrived in Munich the chaos began. First, I didn't know which ticket to buy for the tram. The counters were busy as it was the first of October and everybody had to buy a new ticket. So I had to struggle with the machines and bought just a random ticket and hoped that it would be ok. The next problem was to find the right station for the tram(s) I could take to go to the office. By that it was 8:20 already and there is ONE thing Germans are keen about: punctuality. Not being in time for an important appointment like the first day in a new job is the worst thing that can happen to you in Germany. Hence, I got extremely nervous and ran into the office at 8:28.

I was guided to a conference room where about 30 people were waiting for the event to start. My place at the table was marked with my name and there were 4 books (law texts, recent changes in international GAAPs etc.), a heavy black business suitcase stuffed with things I might need for work (basically stationary) already prepaired for me. After the Welcome/Introduction speech of a "partner" we got our IBM Thinkpads and a 6 hour-introduction of how to work with it and the software.

Tuesday was a bank holiday on which I slept long and went to the gym to prevent me from getting even fater.

Well, the other days were pretty much the same as Monday. I got used to get up extremely early and to trains running late and to get to know new people or get to know those I've met the days before better every day.

On Sunday I'll be sent to a seminar to Holland and I think I won't take a second, i.e. my private laptop with, so I won't update this journal for a while.
