well me and kelly were just talking about it, and me and eric have talked about it, but i've thought about it a lot the past couple days listening to godspeed so i feel like sharing it (especially since i've been trying to think of an entry for like the past month besides just talking about my days and stuff).
I think instrumental bands are insanely genius and that they are probably overlooked by a lot of people. I find that Godspeed and Explosions in the sky and Silver Mt. Zion and all those bands are so crazy in that they can make a song anywhere from 8-20 minutes long with no words and have just sound and music symbolize emotions and ideas. Like Godspeed, they can make a cd of four 20 minute songs, each song has all these different sound clips and segments (almost like songs within the song) that if seperated, have totally different effects and stuff but when they are put together, they seem like they blend and fit together perfectly. And then like Explosions in the Sky, i was reading about their new cd, on the song called "first breath after coma". The song obviously is about being out of a coma, but the whole aim of the sounds (no words yet again) is to convey everything that a man who has just waken up from a coma is feeling and what he would see and feel....all of this conveyed in an instrumental song...and yes i dont think you would think of this by listening to the song, but for them to set out and think of this song in that way amazes me at how deeply they are going about it.
Haha i dont know, on top of this I just love all of these bands so i guess im a little biased, but i still think that they are so complex that they are fricken genius.
