I've got a beautiful feeling...
This weekend was really great; Jason and I spent Saturday afternoon working on projects outside at West State Park, where Ty and Amber joined us for some sunning and some swinging. Vaughn and Gwen also stopped by to say hi. Amber and Jason put together a great meal at Ty's place, and then we all enjoyed a noise-core show (with earplugs, because noise-core is exactly what you'd assume), the most musical act of which was Jason's. He's putting out a live Run_Coward EP soon, for which I'm doing the
cover art. "Tim and Eric" fans may be just about the only ones who won't think I've totally lost my mind and/or all semblance of graphic design skill. It's supposed to look tacky and basic. Haha.
Sunday was Easter, spent in Gahanna with Jason's dad's side of the family. My parents and I never really do anything for Easter, which is fine, but it was fun to be a part of a big get-together. My family is so very small and spread out (two aunts, an uncle, and nine cousins [whom I barely know] in MI, one aunt/uncle/cousin in AZ, one uncle + girlfriend in OR, one grandma and a handful of great-uncles and aunts in Germany... that's everybody), that we never have family celebrations during the holidays. Good thing my parents and I like each other. :) Although we were easily fifteen years older than the oldest of the kids, Jason and I were given bags for the Easter egg hunt, so we very judiciously picked out five or six eggs apiece, letting the actual kids grab their twenty or thirty or whatever. It was pretty cute. Food was great, got lots of hugs from aunts and cousins and boyfriend. Jason and I were both kind of giddy the rest of the evening, possibly from all the sugar (!), but it was fun talking and laughing and being silly.
I've been really busy working on creative projects after work. Last night, I finished my draft of that character sketch for the video game gig. I showed it to the guy who's creating the game, and he really liked it. He's waiting on one other applicant, but he told me he's likely to hire me to design the character bodies and such, possibly working in tandem with another girl on clothing and armor, so he can get a lot of images built up. I'm so excited! I did a little happy dance when I was done talking to him. Although Jason found the work request on a Something Awful forum, this guy actually lives in Columbus, of all places, which will be super convenient for both of us work-wise. What are the chances? Anyway,
here is my final draft, the beginning of which I posted last time (the lady mannequin).
I'm working on the Your Daily Best site; progress is slow, but I'm essentially re-teaching myself CSS, so that's to be expected. :) I have a few articles written, and plan to have 15-20 more by the end of the week. I have a color scheme, which, interestingly enough, I found in a Matchbox Twenty album cover. Ha. I might switch it up, though; to start out, black on white with some candy colors might be more of a draw. It's mine to experiment with, and that's the most exciting part! I'll let you guys know when I have more posted than a Joni Mitchell lyric for dummy text. Oh, by the way, you should listen to
Little Joy and
buy their album right
now because
it is AMAZING. It's only $9.99 on iTunes. Those links are all YouTube videos, by the way. Click click click. If you like feeling happy, you will enjoy this band. Simple as that.
On my way to Athens Friday night, I passed Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville. The sign outside read "Bruce Cockburn, Apr. 19," so immediately, I called my dad to see whether he had heard about this (he hadn't). Bruce is one of the singer/songwriters I grew up listening to, along with the likes of Paul Simon, James Taylor, Elton John, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Loudon Wainwright III and Colin Hay. My dad has GREAT taste in music, and he's a part of why I'm such a music nut. I bought a ticket for the balcony, and thought I'd be going by myself, but Dad told me this morning he's going to look into getting a ticket for himself too! He and Mom are going to see Fleetwood Mac the night before, so it's a lot of driving around, but I'm glad he's going to go with me. Dad and I have seen Barenaked Ladies together twice, Foo Fighters once, and Mom came with us to see Colin Hay last summer (which was awesome, and we met him, and he called me 'Love,' tee hee). Here are some Bruce Cockburn songs for you to enjoy. His lyrics are often quite socially conscious, which is something I really like, but my favorites are his love songs, as you will see from this playlist. Have a nice Tuesday!
EDIT: imeem has let me down... some of these are 30-second samples, though the full ones play on the site. A couple of these, at least, should play the whole way through. Give it a shot.
