Lying on your back in the field, the bonfire light is too distant to warm, but close enough to make out the shape of your hand. A small hand; not large enough for field work yet.
Above you the stars scatter the sky, like the sparks of early morning through the worn corner of your roof. With your finger you trace the figures your mother showed you. That one, the hero; with his bow beside him. The other, nearby, is harder to make out. Some nights he flickers and fades, and you cannot find him for looking. Sparse stars form him; one there for an arm, two for his sword, others for legs and face.
And there, for his heart, the brightest star.

It is years later.
They are halfway between impulsive youth, and those grey-haired years when vision blurs like the treetops through the morning mist. In the early hours of this morning, Marian is half-awake. Guy breathes deeply, heavily. She can feel the touch of his breath on her cheek; warm in the dew-cold dawn.
He shifts, and his hand moves to rest on her stomach, at the side where it curves into her hip. Through her nightdress, his finger ghosts along the faded pattern of her scar, as though tracing an intended path, a necessary part of a journey.
"Marian," Guy sighs, and she is not sure whether he is asleep or awake.
"Sir Guy," she breathes, whisper-soft, in his ear. By his smile she knows she has sweetened his dream.

Heaven, it seemed, was not so large that Robin could avoid encountering Guy. It was only unfortunate that when they did meet, Robin happened to be hand-in-hand with Marian. Death had improved Guy, however. He nodded, with only the slightest edge of sadness to his eyes. He would then have continued on his lonely way, but Marian caught him by the arm.
“Wait, Guy,” she said. Was that excitement in her face? “I knew you would come one day - He told me so. And so, I made...provision,” she said, quietly. She gestured behind him. He turned. It was a second Marian, almost the image of the first. Perhaps her hair was slightly darker, her smile a little more mischievous. Was it Marian? His doubt must have been visible in his expression. The second Marian took a step towards him.
“I am all of her that ever felt for you,” she said. “I am Marian. But I feel - I want only -” she took his hand, and he started. Not just at the touch, but at her eyes which were fixed so intently on his own. Slowly, gradually, he began to smile. So did she.
As Guy left, hand in hand with the other Marian, Robin leant over to whisper a question in his Marian’s ear. Marian rolled her eyes.
“Absolutely not, Robin. That is greedy. Be content with one.”
Title: Falling Out Of Love

Summary: In response to the prompt - Robin/Marian/Guy, it was always going to be us. Perhaps a slightly unexpected interpretation? Anyway. I felt it was about time I partook, seeing as I started this and all!

For Marian, falling out of love was not a sudden thing. It was a slow processing, slip by unaware slip. She looked up, looked back, and found herself an acre of heartbeats away. Once they were never further than a beat.
Marian never meant to fall out of love with Robin, never. He was always so easy to be around, to be with. She felt safe in his arms. And yet...and yet...when he asked her to marry him, she felt no rush of emotion. She felt oddly distanced, happy for him and laughing at him and yet felt as though she was watching him propose to another girl, as if he was telling her by the winter fires. There was a rush of thoughts, of reactions and explanations for the way she felt, but nothing that propelled her into his arms.
Wait - she thought, suddenly - they should wait until the king returns. That brought a rush of emotion: a flooding relief. That would give her time to think.
