*Deep Breath and Exhale*

As of Friday, March 30th, 10:00 hours, I was sworn in as a Soldier in the United States Army. I ship out for Basic Combat Training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky on May 9th. Now, this might color my experience with the Army, but my recruiters took really, really good care of me. No hard sell, no demands. I just walked in and told them what I wanted, and I'll be damned if they didn't bust their asses to get it for me.

Now, I didn't get all that I wanted right now, but just about all of it, with a pretty sure bet that ill get the rest in a few weeks. I was able to swing the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) that I wanted above all things that the Army could offer which was 19K--M1 Abrams Armor Crewman. As such, I'll be dealing with tanks. The other thing I wanted, which will have to be deferred, was a slot in Officer Candidate School (OCS). I didn't go for it as a civilian applicant, because i couldn't make height/weight/BMI%. As stocky as I am, ill always blow a weigh -in for anything, so generally BMI measurements are what get me in. But in this case, I blew BMI by .8%!!! As pissed as I was, i was told how to get into OCS anyway as an Enlisted Soldier, because, apparently, the Army makes it much harder for civilians to get into OCS than Soldiers. As such, I've got that avenue covered because I have all the qualifications for a Soldier to go for OCS once I'm in basic.

At any rate, as of May 9th, ill be spending 15 weeks in training in Kentucky, home of fried chicken and Bourbon whiskey. Now I'm not a big fan of fried chicken, but I'm sure that I'll find something fun to do there. ^_-
