Bleach ending (spoilers)
So I don't post on this blog anymore and I doubt people will be reading this because LJ and especially Bleach fandom on LJ is dead.
However, this did deserve a post.
IchiRuki did not happen.
I don't know why but apparently Kubo went to the school of YA writing and if a character has unrequited feelings for another THEN BY GOD THEY'RE GOING TO END UP TOGETHER!!! Or something. Because IchiHime happened and not one fucking clue as to how Ichigo feels about her. 685 chapters and not ONE fucking clue. People have to literally tell him to look at her and how her boobs practically hang out for him to notice her and this is the fucking ship we got!?
To top it off we get RenRuki because let's be real they were the leftovers because Kubo couldn't be bothered to develop this relationship into something romantic either. Fuck, Renji even thanks Ichigo for restoring his friendship with Rukia because he couldn't do it himself! Ichigo was miserable after 17 MONTHS without Rukia while Renji was doing nothing for 40 fucking years because he had given up on her. But this is the ship we got.
Then to rub it in they've got kids who are the same age, a boy and a girl. Meaning, Ichigo I'm-going-to-protect-mountain-loads-of-people Kurosaki settled down, married and had a child in his early twenties. WHAT!? Orihime of course ends up as a housewife and mother. So empowering. At least Rukia got her due and made Captain. But that she'd also have a kid around the same time, like WHAT THE FUCK!? Why even. They've got hundreds of years ahead.
This makes me so angry. I've been shipping IchiRuki for TEN FUCKING YEARS and... I wanted to feel validated, I guess. Because there's no doubt in my mind that Ichigo and Rukia would have ended up together if Kubo had just followed up on what was already THERE. There was a solid foundation. Fuck, you CAN'T get more solid than changing each other's world and completely understanding each other. That's how you do soulmates.
And don't get me started on the side material which always hugely favored IchiRuki. We once got a spread where they were dressed up like for a date, lying next to a phallic tree and a bottle of alcohol. We got a fucking DATE in the anime, approved by Kubo. We got a poem about how Ichigo wonders if he can keep up with the speed of a world that has no Rukia in it and Rukia's poem admires Ichigo's unchangeing heart in answer.
There was SO much that could have been interpreted as Ichigo <---> Rukia. But where was the Ichigo --> Orihime??? Where was the Rukia --> Renji. Nowhere, that's where.
