Hair.
It seems like a pretty stupid thing for officers in the Army to get uptight about doesn't it? Well, think again because the Army likes to get it's panties in a twist for no particular reason.
This morning I went into Bravo 1-46 to take the written land navigation test (turns out, I was given the wrong guidance and the test isn't until tomorrow, but that's another story). Either way, my friend Miller is sitting there and so I go up and talk to him for a bit. As I'm talking to him this 1LT (there is no discintion among LT's, i.e., she does not "outrank" me) comes up to me and says, "I'm not sure if they've told you but you can't wear your hair like that."
Now let me explain, my bangs are clipped so that they are out of my face and the rest of my hair lies in a bob around my chin. My hair is not in my face, it's clean and well kept. Furthermore, AR 600-1 says NOTHING about your hair needing to be pinned behind your ears which was what this 1LT was trying to tell me I needed to do.
Calmly, I look at her and say, "I'm sorry but you are mis-informed. No where in the Regulation does is say that my hair is wrong. If you'd like I'd be more than happy to print it out and show it to you." At that point I gave her MAJ Svoboda's name and said she was more than welcome to call him and talk to him about it if she needed further guidance about it.
I've learned that people like to pretend like they know what their talking about. They think they heard something somewhere, or someone told them something once and then they assume it's the written rule. It drives me fucking crazy because when you ask them where it's written they can't provide you an answer.
