Orientation went really well. I was getting more nervous as the day went on and it got closer to 7. I got there a few minutes early and ran into my friend Amanda who works there so i talked with her until orientation started. We didn't even go back to the back room until 7:30. Once we were in the office we introduced ourselves to the other new employees at orientation. There were 2 girls and 2 guys (including me). This one girl, Amanda, seems pretty cool and fun or whatever. The other girl Emma was really nice but she seemed kind of weird, not what I would expect Polo to hire. I'm not trying to be mean at all, she just seemed like one of those girls who is kind of slow but I think it may be just because she's never really had much social interaction. Zack seemed nice enough. While we were doing the tour of the store I noticed he had a Lambda Chi Alpha drop (drop's like a necklace charm that has your letters on top of each other) but he didn't really seem like most of the Lambda Chis I've seen but that doesn't mean anything.
We filled out a bunch of forms and watched these company movies about stealing, discounts, and work dangers. These were made in the 80s and were a total cheese fest. It's like the movies that are so over dramatic that it's funny. We learned how to clock-in and all that good stuff and went over dress code. We have to wear a pair of chinos and polos that are in season. So we have to wear the ones that are on the wall but we get our first 5 polos and chinos for pretty cheap. I'm fine with buying new polos so it's all good. Later on in the fall we have to wear oxfords once it starts getting cooler, which for Texas is like...mid-December.
I start sometime this weekend because they want us to sort of know the ropes before tax-free weekend August 4-6th. Omg every mexican and all their lil nachos will be there tearing shit up. Can't wait! We have cashier training Sunday night and I think a company meeting on Monday so hopefully I'll get into the swing of things pretty quick.
I've been spending most of the day packing up the kitchen of the apartment. I've got all the liquor boxed up and I'm working on the pantry and the pots and pans. Jarod's parents are coming sometime this weekend to move our stuff into his new place. I'll be staying there until I leave for Virginia the day after finals. Jarod seems to be having a badass time out on the caribbean. The pictures look amazing and he sounds like he's having a blast.
I'm not really looking forward to Rush this fall. It's always so much work for the couple of weeks leading up to Rush and then we get almost no sleep the actual week of Rush. Hopefully we'll get a big group of badass guys. A few brothers are moving back into the house this week and everyone should be getting it ready for all of the Rush activities. Hopefully the basketball court is clear so we can shoot around and drink a little before we get on the grind for Rush.
