Last weekend I went to a concert with Amy Peasley, and it was fucking awesome. I was actually totally wasted Friday night with Zbegner and Nate at the Flagstone, so when I woke up to Amy Peasley calling me at noon on Saturday I was still drunk. Which made for an interesting two hour drive to Hershey. The concert was Seether, Collective Soul, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Live. The bands weren't to my particular taste (though I do love the Seether song "Fine Again") because they struck me as a harder form of emo, but really they all gave a really good show. Our "seats" were floor seats, so we were standing in the hot blazing sun for five hours surrounded by people trying to kill each other to get up front of defend their territory. In fact, it did come down to a shoving match a couple times, because the bitches in front of us wouldn't let anyone past them (even some poor 16-year-old girl who was trying desperately just to get to her boyfriend--it was the only person she knew there) and two high girls and a guy behind us would not accept their refusal. Of course, Peasley and I were in the middle, and of course everything came to a head during Peasley's favorite band, Breaking Ben. I thought my ribs would crack, the shoving was so hardcore. Happily, security was right beside us, so it diffused quickly enough. But it was a buzz kill. So much so that Peasley went ape shit on the high girls. It was hilarious and bad at the same time. She couldn't stop screaming.
I've had a busy week since then. I had a job interview in Orefield, PA on Tuesday for KidsPeace, so I drove down to Becky's apartment Monday night. I was about to leave my house at 3:00, when she called and said, "Guess what?" "What" "I'm in the back of an ambulance right now because I was in a car accident." "WHAT?!" The story boils down to: she was driving when another car came into her lane and hit her almost head-on. Her airbags deployed and happily she was wearing her seatbelt. The other car bounced off Becky's car, then hit the guardrail and crashed into another car before coming to a stop. The driver of the car that hit Becky had to be extracted, but Becky and the guy behind her (who'd been hit post-guardrail) were both fine, thankfully. Behind the driver of the Car of Doom (TM) was a woman who had been calling police about the Car of Doom (TM) for miles, saying the driver was driving erratically and might be drunk. In fact, the driver was bipolar, and in the middle of a manic episode. Becky assured me over the phone that I should still come down--I think she wanted the company.
So I drove down, but a little later than I originally intended. The drive isn't bad. I could live with it. And the area down there is pretty nice. Rural, but still close to cities like Allentown, Reading, and semi-close to Harrisburg, which will be awesome to be able to drive out and see Heather. Becky's parents were there for a while because they flew down when they heard about her accident, but they didn't stay long.
Tuesday I got up and went to my interview. It took me an hour and a half to get there because Rt. 309 was being the DEVIL. When I found the campus, it was really nice. And my interview was good. The position sounds awesome (but hardcore), great benefits, decent salary, and UNLIMITED TIME-AND-A-HALF OVERTIME. I was pretty excited about that. The job is definitely hardcore though. I'll be trained for 15 days on everything from first aid, AED, and CPR to restraining techniques. Here's the website, in case you're interested:
KidsPeace I interviewed with the Meadows in State College yesterday. Long story short, the pay was too low and I wasn't guaranteed any hours. So...fuck that. I called today to accept the job with KidsPeace. Now I need to find an apartment. Ah! I'm excited.
Yesterday was Zbegner's birthday, so we went out. It was a pretty good time. I didn't bring my A game though, so I wasn't very intoxicated.
I think I'm going to go eat now. I bored myself with this entry.
