Chapter VII

“KiKi?” DongHae asked his guardian, using his childhood pet-name.

“Yeah?” JunKi turned to DongHae.

“How did you know you liked Aoi-nuna? As in, like-liked. Perhaps, more than a friend.”

“Well, I began to enjoy her company a little more than usual, and often felt a little sad without her. I began to look forward to seeing her, and whenever I did, I felt warm and nice inside. What made it very apparent to me was when I began to get a little upset when other guys got a little too close to her. I then figured out that I liked her as more than a friend and decided to ask her out. Why ask so suddenly? Is there a girl you're interested in? Maybe BoA? Or SungMi?”

“No,” DongHae shook his head and gave JunKi a small smile. “No reason at all. Just curious. Well, I better go finish my homework.”

“Okay,” JunKi looked at him a little worriedly. DongHae just smiled and headed back to his room.

I'm in like with HanKyung.

“So, I heard all about your 'daring' rescue of DongHae,” Ayumi smirked. “Though DongHae's a far cry from a damsel in distress, you must have appeared quite heroic.”

HanKyung turned and looked at SeungHyun, who raised his hands up as a sign of innocence. He then turned to YoungSaeng.

“Not me,” the boy replied, eyes glued to his book. “JungMin's the one telling the sensational stories.”

“You gotta admit though, it did look pretty cool,” SeungHyun reasoned.

“I'm pretty sure a lot of girls would've loved to be in the same position as DongHae,” Ayumi mused, “being rescued by HanKyung.”

“Guys, stop,” HanKyung rolled his eyes, but could not help the slight blush creeping onto his cheeks.

“It's like one of those scenes out of a drama,” Ayumi continued.

“Oh my gosh,” HanKyung dropped his head onto his desk.

“If DongHae were a girl, it would've been perfect drama material,” YoungSaeng agreed, eyes still glued to his book.

“But DongHae's not a girl,” HanKyung retorted. “I mean, he got embarrassed afterwards and pushed me away. Clearly it was an awkward event for him, and not some romantic one like the way you guys make it sound.”

“Do I hear a hint of hurt and dejectedness in that tone?” Ayumi cocked her head and blinked owlishly.

“I don't think dejectedness is a real word,” YoungSaeng noted.

“What?” HanKyung turned to Ayumi.

“I don't know,” the girl shrugged, “but it sounds to me, it's like you kinda wish he did have some romantic notion towards that event.”

“What? No! Of course not!” HanKyung protested. “Do I? Wait, what?”

“Yeah, let's step away from this topic for now, shall we?” SeungHyun suggested. “I'm afraid we might end up breaking HanKyung's brain.”

“Wait, what?”

“So,” SungMi sidled up to DongHae.

“So what?” the boy asked.

“I heard about HanKyung-oppa saving you from a flying volleyball.”

“Oh.”

“Oh? That's it?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, how do you feel?”

“Well, I didn't get hit, so I'm not hurt anywhere.”

“That wasn't what I was talking about. How do you feel?”

“I don't know. How am I supposed to feel?”

“How should I know? I'm not you.”

“Well, I don't know either.”

“DongHae.”

“I'm serious, alright? I really don't know. I'm just . . . I'm really confused, okay? Yes, I really like HanKyung, but I've always liked HanKyung. He's my best friend, so of course I like him. I just . . . I'm just not sure I'm in love with him or anything. I mean . . . I don't know. I really don't.”

SungMi sighed and nodded in understanding. She gently ruffled DongHae's hair.

“Well, I hope you figure it out soon.”

“Thanks.”

“HanKyung-sshi,” Stephanie greeted HanKyung in the hall.

“Ah, Stephanie-sshi,” HanKyung bowed.

“I heard you got hit by a volleyball,” said the older girl. “I hope you're alright.”

“Oh, yeah,” HanKyung nodded. “I'm fine. It wasn't a big deal. Anyways, how are you?”

“I'm okay. Actually, I was wondering when you have ballet lessons. I was hoping to tag along with you to get a glimpse of what your dance school is like.”

“Oh. Well, I have dance lessons on Saturdays at 2:00 pm. The lesson is an hour and a half. We spend the first half hour to stretch and warm up, and then the rest of the hour is devoted to practice. If we have a recital coming up, then lessons are stretched to two hours. But yeah, you're welcome to come along and see for yourself.”

He opened up a notebook and tore out a page, quickly scribbling on it and handing it to the older girl.

“Here is my cell phone number and email. Just give me a call or something when it's convenient for you.”

“Thank you,” Stephanie smile.

“Anyways, I have to get to class. I'll see you around.”

“Okay, bye.”

HanKyung bowed quickly and then ran off for class. Out of nowhere, two pairs of arms suddenly grabbed him and pulled him into an empty stairwell.

“Wha- ?” he sputtered.

“Who was that?” KwangSun demanded.

“Is she your girlfriend?” KwangHo asked.

“Does DongHae know about her?”

“I'm pretty sure he'd be heartbroken if he found out.”

“HYUUUUUUUNG-DEUUUUUUULLLLLLL!”

* * * * *
“Hey, 'Autumn Semi-Formal' is coming up,” YooChun read off a bulletin board. “Juniors' and Seniors' as usual. Too bad. I think the rest of you would be better company than HeeChul. Ow!”

“ShinDong's clearly not the only glutton for punishment,” KiBum smirked as YooChun nursed his head.

“Does this mean we have to go looking for dates,” asked EunHyuk.

“If you want to,” HeeChul shrugged. “I personally think it's a waste of time to, but whatever.”

“I've already got mine,” ShiWon grinned, holding JunSu closely.

“Says who?” the smaller boy shot back.

“But Baby!” ShiWon protested, eyes widening, missing the faint blush and small smile on his boyfriend's face.

“Whipped,” SungMin rolled his eyes.

“Is it me, or did their personalities somehow switch ever since they became 'official'?” ShinDong whispered to the others. The others all sighed and shook their heads sadly.

“Whipped,” they said in unison.

“You think JiYeon will go with me if I ask?” YooChun mused, eyes hopeful.

“About as likely as you beating me in video games,” ChangMin scoffed. “Heck! I think it's about as likely as you beating YounHa in video games!”

“Oi!” YooChun attempted to smack his brother upside the head. ChangMin merely swatted his hand away.

“Are you going to ask anyone?” HanKyung turned to DongHae. The younger boy blushed a little, then shrugged in response.

“Why, are you?”

HanKyung just smiled and shrugged.

“Probably not,” he chuckled, slinging an arm across DongHae's shoulders. “My date will probably just be you guys.”

DongHae felt his cheeks heat up a little.

“But I'm sure there will be lots of nunas who'd want to go with you,” the younger boy noted, fighting to keep his tone from sounding bitter.

“Yeah, well, it would probably be a lot more fun with you guys anyway.”

“What about that Stephy-nuna?”

“Hmm? What about her?”

“What made it very apparent to me was when I began to get a little upset when other guys got a little too close to her.”

DongHae shook his head and tried to smile.

“It's nothing.”

A/N: sorry for the long wait.  it will probably be another long wait ^^;
