crossovers

I love crossovers. No really. LOVE.

And for me, the more cracked out the combination, the better. Clarification: I want crossovers that should never in a million years work and I want the author to have a damned good reason why it does. You know, even if the explanation doesn't ever show up explicitly in the fic, as long as the author has all of the details worked out in his/her mind, all is good.

And here's a list of crossovers I have bouncing around in my head when I ought to be doing other stuff. Like homework.

SGA/X-Men

I actually wrote a snippet of this a while back...Ah yes, here. Basically, the ATA and X genes are one and the same.

And the government, once they realize this are all, "Hey, we have a lot of mutants running around making us nervous. AND we've got a colony in another galaxy that keeps bugging us for more personnel. In another galaxy. Do I see a solution? I think I do!"

So they scoop up a lot of mutants, shoot them through the 'gate with notes reading "good luck!" pinned to them. The Atlantis people have to figure out how to incorporate a bunch of new people (who gets stuck in the labs and who gets thrown to the field, that sort of thing) and the X-Men people have to get used to not automatically scaring people with their powers. Because really, after wannabe Marilyn Manson catfish space vampires? As long as you're not sucking the life out of me with your palm...Which would make Rogue dealing all the more interesting.

SGA/Firefly

I actually don't have a good background for this one. I just think it'd be fun. Spaceships! Flyboys! Cowboys! Warrior women who could kick all their asses! Big warrior men comparing and admiring each others weapons!

Seriously, how is that not fabulous?

So...I'm thinking maybe the Firefly-verse is an offshoot of some Ancients, who colonized yet another galaxy for their own purposes. (Probably debate over whether to Ascend or not.) And they just had the one gate, which the Alliance now has locked up, but a dialing mishap happens on Atlantis and they get shot through there.

Or, intersection of alternate universes. I dunno, something. But if they were Ancients, then Sheppard really could talk to Serenity!

SGA/Pern

This is my brain-candy. I really just want McKay to bond with Fandarel over science and John to bond with the dragons over flying. No idea how they'd get there, but surely the dragons could get them back.

No wait, I did think of something! The Ancients surveyed the planet before the Wraith debacle, but never colonized, for whatever reason. Then, the Wraith started eating everyone and a group from one of the advanced human civilizations sent out ships secretly. But they didn't have hyperspace ships, so it took them a long time to get there, which is how I can get the two time lines to match.

SGA/Ranma

For those who don't know, Ranma 1/2 is a Japanese comic about a martial arts boy (Ranma) who goes on a training trip with his dad to China, where they come across the 100 Springs, or something like that. Anyway, dear ole' dad couldn't read the vacationer's brochure, so didn't know that each spring was cursed. Ranma falls into the spring where a beautiful girl fell in 100 years ago and drowned (very tragic tale) and so he got turned into a girl. Now, cold water turns him into a girl, and warm water turns him back into a boy. (His dad fell into the spring of the Drowned Panda, btw.)

You can see where I'm going with this, right? And there are hundreds of those springs. So many possibilities!

SGA/Saiyuki

I think I might explode from absolute glee if someone ever wrote this. The combination of my two most favorite series....

So, Saiyuki: another Japanese comic, by Kazuya Minekura. So, it's about three deeply disturbed guys and Goku, a heretical creature (neither human nor demon, thus neither heavenly nor hellish), who is probably the most well-adjusted but turns into a remorseless killer when his limiter (thing worn to keep his demonic strength at a more human level) is taken off or broken. The three guys started out as gods, got in some trouble and reincarnated as humans, and the main Saiyuki story picks up with them about 500 years later, when all four of their lives intersect again. They cause a lot of trouble save the world.

I know exactly how all this would work out too! But, it would take a long time to explain...and this post is already pretty long. But on the plus side, I think this has taken care of my wrisomifu for three days. Anyway, if you are really curious, ask and I will be entirely too happy to explain.

Notice a running theme of Atlantis?
