Sigh.
Someone broke into my house through the dining room window. Fortunately, we're fine and they only took my old laptop with a broken screen, rather than anything of value. Still, it points out the vulnerability of our position here -- especially since, had I come home a little earlier, they might have taken my Macbook which I dropped off or even been in the house when I arrived.
Perhaps I ought to be a little more shaken, but I view it mostly as a lesson learned.
