(no subject)
My internet access has become more reliable lately, so now I can try to keep up on how everyone's doing again.
My car broke down for good a month or two ago. I have spent the last few weeks trying to get rid of it. I first tried to find charities to donate it to. I called at least half a dozen of the ones I found here. Either my car was too old for them (it was an '88) or they didn't do pickups in my area (you know, way out here in St Paul--the middle of nowhere) or I repeatedly got an answering machine. I then said "screw it" and checked the Yellow Pages for auto salvage and recycling places. I called place after place today (all during my breaks at work, because most of these places are only open until 5). "We don't take cars that old." "We're too backlogged to schedule any more pick-ups." "We'll only take it if you deliver it to us." "We don't take those, but let me give you the number of a guy who might." Eventually, someone finally referred me to a guy who could tow it away for free, and was even able to pick it up this evening after work. So as of about 5:30 tonight, I finally got rid of the car. And before I had to worry about trying to move the thing for snow emergencies too. This is good news.
In other good news, my stepfather bought a car on my behalf last Sunday, and is making some repairs to it this week. He said that it would probably be ready to go in a week, so I shall soon have a car that runs. That's really about all I want from a car right now--that it runs when I want it to and stops when I want it to. Everything else is just details.
My stepfather drove me out to look at the car when I was down during Thanksgiving. It's kind of a weird miniature station wagon. Black. My first thought when I saw it was, "It looks sort of like a mini hearse." Or at least it will if I can do a little cosmetic alteration to the back windows. ;-)
So all of you people who got stuck driving me around when I was car-less can breathe a sigh of relief. I will soon be (car-ful?) (car-endowed?) the opposite of car-less again.
