it's kind of funny but i think that a huge chunk of my personality doesn't quite translate into french very well and this is something i've only just now discovered. so in phoenix there isn't much of a francophone community and even though i know a fair amount of french speakers, it's more often than not when they just speak english. so my practice is limited to really linear conversations, and the tons of french music i listen to.
but so i went to san diego with this soft spoken french girl who doesn't really do the whole english thing, and i realized that without me communicating in english, only about half of my personality translates, and almost NONE of my sense of humor translates. this is something i'm now going to work on bc yeah it sucks. making jokes about things and lightening the mood when people are being too serious is well if not a defense mechanism of mine, it's at least an interest that i have.
and furthermore me not being able to be funny; it's like batman without his utility belt. sure he can do lots of other things still, but the utility belt has all of the important things in it.
hmmm now that i think of it, this could be a chance to reinvent my sense of humor... i do love options
oh so i went out to this salsa night yesterday and i pinpointed an aspect of what a good dance instructor is. a good instructor is someone who intervenes and tells your partner what they're doing wrong, so YOU don't have to (then you don't have to be the bad guy)
oh i just completely lost my train of thought. i'm going out to tango tonight and i drifted away for a moment, thinking about tango.
crap i should get headed to work.
