in my latin/swing/ballroom class we have some tango. well that is to say that it is one of our 8 dances in there so we don’t spend too awful much time on it. and it’s the american version evidently so it is its own dance apart from the argentine tango. well i couldn’t sign up for the actual tango course this semester because it conflicted with my work schedule but they apparently have a tango-club on campus and it meets thursday nights right after my swing class. (i thank my new swing partner for telling me about it) and so i went to it yesterday night and arhg i had a GREAT time. when i first got there i re-met this girl that i had known from french club a couple of years ago. i started a conversation with her in french and after a bit of chatting i had her go out to the dance floor with me to ask her to show me what she could do. it was great:) and it was real easy; at least compared to some of the other dances i’d been doing
*has flashbacks to traumatic cha cha experiences*
but she told me twice, once at first and once at the end of the night, that i was brave. :D
i know for sure what i’m doing next thursday night. anyway so their club stayed for two hours, till 9pm. i danced all but one or two songs and whenever i switched partners i would ask her to show me something new. by the end of the night i’d learned a handful of new moves and i was kind of really tired i think. but i didn’t let that slow me down. actually being that the club starts at seven and goes till nine (or later if they go out to a dance club) and i’m up at six am or seven at the latest, on thursdays, and with the 3hours of dancing throughout the day anyway, it makes for a long day. and so the argentine tango was a little mellow and it fit in well with the end of my day.
after tango it was funny cause there’s this open air bar across the street from asu and thursdays they have all kinds of specials so i met up with some people there. and i showed two friends how to tango a little bit, and i combined a few of the moves from both tango styles at one point. it was nice, yeah :) but the best part was that i think i could show anyone the basics now. it’s really not that complicated to start with and it’s such a mellow and nice dance. i even tried the cheek to cheek style though it’s not to often that i’ll come across a partner tall enough (or with high enough heels) to make that work with. so cheek to cheek is more like my cheek to top of the head/cheek to my chest
ahhh tango…. the key to my heart perhaps ?
