Saturday, 110 miles, about 7 hours. Left at 10, came back around 6. First ride with a purpose - a recon mission to New Jersey, scoping out possible condo buying places.
First ride over a bridge - the Verazzano. It gets quite windy up there, and my puny bike sure lets me feel it.
First ride through a tunnel - quite claustrophobic, the smell isn't exactly "fresh", and on top of everything the carburator doesn't seem to be getting enough oxygen. No wind, however - tunnels seem to be a better choice, especially since traffic is usually lighter.
First ride through Manhattan. Sure keeps you on you toes, lots of stuff going on at once, even on the weekend. Once I start commuting to work (in a month or so) it should be fun.
First practical use of the GPS - marking bad neighbourhoods with waypoints.
Overall, the mission was sucessful, I now have a general idea of where to look for condos. Hoboken is nice, but too upper-west-side for my taste, heavy traffic and definetely overpriced. Weehawken, Guttenberg and West New York (close to the Hudson) seem like decent choices. Union City and west West New York, though, are not good choices. I'll definetely need a few more missions.
