Sure, it's been a few weeks since the holidays but I wanted some time to reflect on things. Okay, or it could be that I just didn't take the time to do it until now. My computer's constant crashing lately kept me from my raid and the Star Trek Online beta servers are undergoing emergency maintenance so here I am!
The holidays were pretty much a blur of mediocrity. By that I don't mean that things were bad or that I didn't have a good time; there was just really nothing exciting that happened. I was on-call the week of Christmas so my mom and I were stuck in OC. She came down late on Christmas Eve and we had an early dinner with my cousin and her partner on Christmas Day. It was nice to see them. They don't live far away but just far enough to be inconvenient (much like my North LA friends). Once I was no longer on-call, we went back to Fresno and hung out there. None of my Fresno friends were available, either, so we didn't really do anything special.
It was a very subdued vacation, which was probably good since my aunt's husband spent all of it in the hospital recovering from surgery. There was a point at which it seemed it was unlikely he was going to live. We're still not sure once he fully comes back to his senses and starts physical therapy that he's going to want to stay among the living. My mom was a huge help for my aunt and her presence, even if just by phone, was comforting.
The ending of 2009 was pretty personally tumultuous, as well, and I can't say I want to repeat it. I've learned a lot about what I want out of things these past months, though. The seeds have been set for a better 2010 even despite my work schedule looking more and more booked. I'm cautiously optimistic; a rare situation.
