So I caught this little wonder on AIM today:
JCPenney's "teen sex" ad. Much like the Teh Debbil's Pregnancy Pact, the morality brigade is rearing their butt-ugly heads again. Since that blog ate my response and I don't want to sign up for it, here is my response.
++++
You are all overreacting. The only teens who think doing risky stuff is okay because they saw a stupid TV ad are the ones whose parents haven't done a very good job teaching them the difference between fantasy and reality. Much younger kids who see this more likely won't know (nor care) what the heck the the teens are doing, and that is their parents' chance to explain why they shouldn't follow that example. Your kids are not that stupid! You as their parents should know that by now!
You don't want your kid to have sex? TEACH THEM ABOUT IT. Tell them why you think they should wait until they find someone they love and trust enough to take such a big step! Tell them why you think they shouldn't do something just because their peers or something on TV says they should! How sex works, about condoms, about pregnancy, don't hold anything back! Again, kids and teenagers are smarter than a lot of you are giving them credit for. They WILL get the point, and the more they know about something, the more likely they are to make smart choices.
Those talking about how the world today is "without morals" or whatever...you disgust me. I'm sick of hearing this crap you spew about how our world is going to hell because a stupid TV ad suggests the idea of teens (They of Hormone Hill) having ICKY SINFUL SEX, which they NEVER did before the last three decades, no no no! What kind of fucked up priorities do you people have if THAT is the worst thing in the world to you?
