*It's a wonderful warm day in May and Ruka is sat outside, under a tree, on either the Academy Island or in the park in Domino City. She looks to be hard at work though, as she mulls over some books she has with her, occasionally jotting down notes in a notebook. On closer inspection, the books appear to be theories on time travel, as well as ( Read more... )

*There seems to be a young man with silverish hair, admiring some flowers that have been planted around the grassy parts of the park-- including by the tree.

... He keeps looking over at Ruka, having somewhat noticed that your books deal with time, at the least. It's fairly obvious that he's doing so, too. He doesn't really know what subtlety is.*

*Ruka, noticing the man's presence nearby, occasionally looks up from her books and notices him looking over at her. She feels a little uneasy, but after a while, she finally decides to speak to him*

Erm... hi there.

... Ah. Hello. *He didn't actually expect you to say anything*

... I could not help but notice what you are reading, there. *might as well get right to the point then!*

Ah, yeah. It's for a personal project I'm working on.

... Interesting, that someone would take an interest in time itself. *... he steps a bit closer, looking at the book titles*

Especially time travel theories. ... Tell me, is that a common occurrence in this city?

Not a common occurrence... no... but... it has happened.

... I needed to make sure, at least.

Is the rare occurrence why you are researching into this?

*Ruka nods*

Yes, it is.

I see.

... I hold a rather strong interest in time travel, myself. Which is why I find it interesting that someone else shares any interest at all.

It can be a rather convoluted subject matter, after all.

Really? You're interested in time travel? What do you know about it? Specifically, what do you know about it's possible impacts on a time line, if someone was sent back in time, possibly even to a different timeline to their own.

... I know that a timeline can handle only so many impacts to it, before it becomes fractured off into a completely different timeline.

It is in order to avoid the paradox of one's own existence. If one goes into the past, and then changes too much to the world, they risk their own existence occurring in the future. That is why, instead, the future that an individual might originate from fractures off from the timeline that was created as a result of actions.

However, the idea that one might have been sent back to a different past, than their own... *he seems a bit contemplative on that*

*Ruka, however, seems more fixed on his explanation*

So... it IS possible for a timeline to branch off and become a different timeline if things are messed with too much?

*She seems a little unsettled with that*

... Yes, generally.

Sometimes, it is unavoidable. It is best to try to minimize the changes done by one's presence, or to plan such interference carefully.

I see...
...I don't think things could ever of been planned carefully...

Time, like I said, is a convoluted subject matter. It is difficult to tell what might be too much, when affecting the past. It is difficult to assume when too much may have changed.

I guess you're right. I sorta wish I knew for sure though...

If something like that happened... I assume the timeline the person came from would be safe, right? Nothing would happen to it?
