Let's start with the URL:
http://www.ryanvsdorkman.com/ This is where you can find two of the most entertaining Star Wars fanfilms I've ever seen since TROOPS (look it up if you haven't seen that either). There's no real story to it, and no costumes, and it's filmed in someone's metal shop. It's nothing more (so to speak) than two Star Wars fans in flannel doing a lightsaber fight. Theforce.net was full of lightsaber fight videos, and probably still is.
The difference is quality.
These two guys put together a magnificent display of special effects, extremely creative fight choreography, solid physical and facial acting (no lines are ever spoken), and an extremely good sense of set continuity (especially in #2, watch for saber damage marks).
Supposedly, the guys who worked on this have actually parlayed it into jobs with Lucasfilm or ILM or something, and I can believe it. One of the most common praises I hear about these shorts is that these fights are *better* than the fights we saw in the official Star Wars movies, with the possible exception of Yoda going apeshit on Christopher Lee in Episode II -- Throw down, little green man, throw down! Probably my favorite moment from the otherwise mediocre-at-best prequels.
Considering that these guys were amateur filmmakers at the time they made this, the quality is just fantastic. Take a look, and enjoy the ride.
