"Excuse me, I've been turned into a Cow. May I go home?"
"You're excused. Anyone else?"
"No, we're good."
How can people NOT love this movie? Someone once described this less-hyped 2000 Disney feature as "The Greatest Chuck Jones Animation Not Done By Chuck Jones", and bless the director's heart, that summation is right on the money.
The Emperor's New Groove, for all its storied troubles getting made (the wikipedia entry is fascinating reading), turned out to be a fine lovable movie. Normally, I'm ambivalent about David Spade -- I don't hate him, but his presence doesn't sell me on a movie, but I loved his voice work in this, and the supporting cast of John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, and Patrick Warburton is one for the ages, a combination that I would have loved to see put together again. Sadly, Eartha Kitt died in 2008, but one can dream.
Few movies made my sides hurt from laughing like this one does, and the final chase sequence still makes me smile every time (and I'm including that ten minute clip below).
If you're a Disney-hater, set that bias aside and watch this movie RIGHT NOW. If you loved Patrick Warburton in The Venture Bros. or The Tick, you'll adore him here. Even if you normally could care less about animation in general, I would still advise you to check this film out. It's absurd, it's historically inaccurate, it's weird and strange and GLORIOUS. Not only does the story have plot holes, but the movie *recognizes* these plot holes and makes them into some of the funniest jokes of the film!
And to think that the project got its start as a Serious Epic, Yo. I think this way turned out much better.
