After grabbing some food on Queen out front of Nathan Phillips Square this evening, I walked up Yonge, stopping at Dundas Square. There were the usual folks sitting at the little metal tables and chairs that always seem to be around, but I spied a trio of cyclists just sitting on the ground chatting. Upon seeing this I thought to myself "What a fantastic idea!" and found a nice patch of ground and sat down to read.
The thing about Dundas Square which I have never noticed until this evening is that when you sit down and look up at all of the flashing screens and advertisements, the skyline resembles a bad website from the mid-90's; garish and tacky with umpteen flash aps and .gifs all over the place. What's strange is that it seems somehow to work at Yonge & Dundas. It's difficult to articulate specifically what I mean, but if you get the change to stop by during the spring and summer months, go sit down in the evening and just watch the whole scene. It's a little surreal.
