monkey antagonism

In the evening Mexican neighbors launch fireworks over the intersection. I'm not sure where they come from, the roof of the dentist's office, maybe, or the alley behind it. Sitting in the wing chair reading, I hear the launch-thud and turn in time to see two explode in quick succession. They are close enough that I can see the ash falling.

3-month photo update, including pics from last weekend's Dekalb Scrambler. Most of the acts (17 in all) were great. Mike's ABBA band brought ABBA into uncharted territory. Spiritualized were also pretty incredible.

Took 2 long bike rides this weekend, one Northwest and one Southeast. Last night on the way to buy groceries, the right pedal snapped clean off. Luckily it didn't happen when I was miles away in the vast wastelands of the Near West Side. I love this fifty dollar bike, but I may have to put a little more money into it.

I eat tacos for dinner 3 - 4 times a week. Directly across the street, Traspasada #2 Inc. is one of the best taquerias in the city (offering head and tripe and tongue in addition to the usual meats), and that classy business at Taco Window isn't much further.

The Family Circus delivered one of their best ever strips on Sunday. The first panel shows the (somewhat dimwitted) second son industriously building a sand volcano, or perhaps the walls of a crude castle, on the seashore. Gulls fly in the distance and a gentle wave approaches. In the second panel the wave has landed, reducing the boy's labors to a lumpy mess as he cries in anguish.
