we haven't heard from Security Officer Carlton in a while:
vog: "How's it going?"
SOC: "Man, I'm just takin' it day by day, trying to stay on the square. No matter what you got to stay on the square. These people nowadays, they're coming at you like crabs, swiping at you from the sides like they got pinchers. You can't get caught up in it, you got to stay on the square."
vog: "Yeah, I'm trying to keep my focus."
SOC: "Good, that's good. Keep your priorities straight. A lot of them are jumping out of windows these days."

Over the weekend I went to the big new Chicago comix con, C2E2. I got a free pass through work. Apart from the Top Shelf booth, I didn't really care about the content at all, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. I'd never been to Mccormick Place (Chicago's big convention center), it was mind-bogglingly huge. I really felt floored / dwarfed in a way that I haven't felt in a long time. It's no surprise to now learn on internet that it's the largest convention center in the US, with 2 million 670,000 square feet of exhibition space. C2E2 was in the East building, the oldest of the four (completed in 1971 in modernist-y style similar to the skyscrapers of that area, set apart by the huge windows on all sides. The food area even has a great lake view. The mood is the opposite of the Rosemont convention center, which is like a neverending basement.
Every existing old-timey store in the Midwest had a booth with big displays of golden & silver age displays. There were costumes, maybe 50 or 100 artists, and Carrie Fisher (didn't see her), and a minimum of non-comix bs. The top shelf booth had Nate Powell and 3 dudes from their "Swedish invasion", who were cool. Their books are great. I went to an after party but missed the entertainment (one of the Swedes is also a rapper). I did try the new taco window people have been talking about in Wikr Park. It is magical.
Sunday we went to RAN at the Music Box, which I've seen a dozen times but never in a theater. I focused on faces & the roles of the various generals & had some new thoughts about it, already forgotten. It is still the best movie.
