I don't think you're likely to find me at a political rally. In general the shouting and cheering and whatever seems more appropriate to a sporting event, where the effects of the outcome are much more confined to the silly and fickle emotions of the fans. Politics should be afforded the grim skepticism and perhaps derision that accompanies that

Obama's inexperience has become less of an issue for me as the campaign has gone on, for the reasons stated in the article. Sometimes skill and talent can make up for a lack of experience (there have been some very talented rookies in professional sports, and Obama isn't even quite a rookie in national politics), and I think that's true in Obama's case.
Palin was glossed over in the article, and obviously Biden wasn't mentioned. Biden, except for his occasional bouts of foot-in-mouth disease, has been kind of a yawner of a factor in this election, and I think that's probably how their campaign wants it. There's not a whole lot to question about his credentials. Palin, on the other hand....sure, she's got middle class mojo. Out of the four of them, I'd probably want her to help remove the dog shit from my clogged lawnmower, and I'd feel a lot better going hunting with her than, say, Dick Cheney. Palin's inexperience, unlike that of Obama, doesn't seem tempered with any special talents or skills for national leadership. To me, her selection was nothing more than a gimmicky move to get women and the GOP base.
I did like this paragraph, though:
That, however, was Senator McCain; the Candidate McCain of the past six months has too often seemed the victim of political sorcery, his good features magically inverted, his bad ones exaggerated. The fiscal conservative who once tackled Mr Bush over his unaffordable tax cuts now proposes not just to keep the cuts, but to deepen them. The man who denounced the religious right as “agents of intolerance” now embraces theocratic culture warriors.
McCain could have been an intriguing alternative, but the path his candidacy has chosen has made the GOP ticket a completely unpalatable choice for me.
