So I haven't charged anything on any credit cards for about a year and a half and all of my cards have a zero balance. Naturally, when the statement came in the mail for my card that I keep open for emergencies I just threw it away... mistake.
Apparently I charged something by accident for about $10 six months ago! I think it was an amazon purchase with my old card on file. It'e been racking up interest and late payments for the last six months! I called the company and they let me pay off the money plus interest without the late payment charges (thank you bank of Omaha!). The only reason I found out was that I got a strange, different letter from them that wasn't a statement (so I opened it) that told me they has closed my account and forwarded to collections!
So, yeah, I'll be checking those statements from now on.
