I figured out why nobody really cares about Veterans Day, Labor Day and Martin Luther King Day...
There is nothing to buy! Any holiday that is associated with buying things (Candy, Costumes, Presents, Fireworks, Mexican Food, Big Meals) is a holiday that people celebrate. Anything else is just a day off of work (or a day not off of work if your me).
It's not official unless there is specialized consumption.
