[A small child kneels before an empty crushed red envelope. Before speaking, she suddenly stands and turns to face you]

Welcome the new year. What is your goal?

Goal...?

Something you wish to achieve this year.

Perhaps something I can assist you with.

[Innocent Momo is innocent, and suspects nothing. Very sweet of this girl to offer to help a complete stranger! A simple, sweet headshake follows.]

Thank you, but there's nothing I need assistance with. I simply wish to make the people around me happy, and be there for the ones I love. If I can do that, I will be happy myself.

But it's very kind of you to offer.

I too wish to make people here happy. Unfortunately, most seem to be frightened by the concept.

Truly? That's strange...why would anyone fear your help?

[She could ask further speculative questions on the subject, but there's the possiblity of rudeness, so she'll keep it simple to start.]

I believe it is similar to how a bird in a cage feels. Freedom can be frightening.. Old habits hard to... crush.

...

I don't think I understand. What do you mean by that?

The joy I am offering to teach people means accepting a drastic change to your life.

[Well, that admittedly makes more sense. Kind of.]

Then it's understandable that they would hesitate. Perhaps they are simply comfortable with the way they are living? As long as they're not being hurt, it shouldn't be a problem...

[Momo would assume that this meant offering aid to abused people, except her robot brain caught hold of that keyword: most. And 'most' people living here in the Haven, Vocaloids and others alike, seemed content with their lots. At the least, they didn't strike her as unhappy...]

But they could be happier.

[loosely clasping a fist to her sternum.]

Individuals are responsible for their own happiness. While everyone needs assistance now and again...everyone also needs to stand on their own. It's good that you're concerned for the welfare of others, but there is only so much that can be done for one person by another.

[Of course, she suddenly feels a little nervous getting all preachy when -- and this realization hits her more solidly when she actually thinks of it -- she doesn't even truly realize what help this girl is offering. Something that makes people happier, by her own account, but...she's being rather vague about it.]

Please do not misunderstand, Miss. What I offer is advice and the means to help yourself. Change is meaningless if it doesn't come from within.

Even if I could force someone to accept my gift, only a cheap trashy happiness would result from that. Such a thing is not my goal.

[Oh! That certainly makes sense. She's similar to those self-help people, then.]

I see. I think I understand better, now...I'm sorry for misconstruing. [and an apologetic nod for good measure!] Please forgive me.

It is quite all right! I know I speak of an unusual and complicated matter.

[Curious again!]

...What help do you offer to others, besides advice?

Clarity of vision, so one can see that which binds them far better focus.
