Huh...

[Kaito has just seen today's date somewhere on the street - like a newspaper rack. He looks a bit baffled on the realization that,]

We've been here for a year today.

[He means Mekaito, whom he's absently talking to, but it applies to leftsearching too.]A lot has changed in a year, hasn't it? First we met another "me," then that bus showed up... things ( Read more... )

Isn't that up to you?

[Suddenly, a hobo. He overheard the last bit while turning the corner.]

[Whoa, didn't see you there]

A-ah, you heard that, huh? [he rubs his head]

Yeah, it is. I was just thinking. I've come so far, how much further do I need before it's time?

[a slight smile.]

Again, that's up to you.

Does it bother you?

I'm not sure. In a way, it's kind of nice too, isn't it?

I think it is. [Then again, he wasn't leaving much behind.] I don't regret coming here.

That's good.

... So, if I do have to go soon... would you rather stay here?

[he asks without thinking about it. The year he's lived here, they've been roommates. He'll be the weirdest to say goodbye to.]

[He had never even thought of it until now. It was too easy to get used to being around people again after so many years without them.]

It would be strange [understatement] to say goodbye to you.

But if your home is far... I don't think I could keep up, [he admits. The incident with the turrets reminded him exactly how much slower he was becoming.]

I agree. It'd be... very odd.

[Kaito frowns. He couldn't keep up, huh.... that's not very satisfying.]

[He just shrugs.]

I don't really remember.

[KAITO isn't happy with the fact either. He looks away.]

I would slow you down.

....

Well, what if I was gonna go slow anyway?

[yeah, he can't really do that, can he? Light sigh]

Just kidding.

[Liar. He can imagine Kaito purposely slowing his pace just to let KAITO keep up, even if it meant longer days out in the middle of nowhere.]

...if I found a way to tune myself up I think I could match your pace. [In all honesty, he doubted it was possible; he has a 200+ year old body. Artificial or not, that's still a lot of years.] I could try.

If that's what you want, I'll try too. Maybe I can help - my studies have to be good for something. [although the thought does make him nervous.]
