Finally got a chance to finish MGS4 after owning it for weeks.
Just some impressions:
1) Beginning of the game really dragged... like a LOT. Too many cutscenes that continued on and on and seemed pointless. Fortunately, the game picks up at the first boss and is pretty much nonstop til the end...
2) LOVED the bosses. MGS is known for its bosses, but this game really takes the cake. Battles with the B&B's are all so reminiscent of the earlier MGS battles but in such a good way. The first boss was so creative and cool that it made me want to see how they could get even better...
3) Revisiting Shadow Moses-- OMG-- soooo freaking nostalgic and awesome. Even boss fights mirrored the old fights from MGS1... *dies from goodness*
4) REX vs RAY -- nuff said.
5) I actually LIKE Raiden now. In MGS2, he was so lame because he wasn't hardened and cool like Snake. Now he kicks even more ass AND he's a cyborg ninja.
6) MGs wouldn't be as manly a game as it is without the final fight being a mano e mano FIST FIGHT. One word: GLORIOUS.
7) Ending reminded me of Lord of the Rings ending-- how many false endings does a game/movie need? A lot of it was unnecessary. Who cares about Drebin-- and what's up with Meryl and Akiba? I guess it ties everything up, but kinda dragged for me. I would've been perfectly satisfied with beating the crap out of Liquid Ocelot and ending it there.
8) I won't spoil anything so, let's just say I wish Snake ended up the opposite of how he ends up.
All in all, an awesome experience. This is the kind of send off MGS deserved. It's really awesome to think Kojima started this stuff back in the late 80's and carried it all the way til now making everything make sense. This type of closure is something decades in the making and makes me sad that the series is finally over. I know, they are planning to continue it(they really shouldn't), but at least Snake's legacy is done.
End.
