argh, i hate when i'm bored but i have stuff to do. it's like, what's wrong with this picture?
anywho, so coldplay tickets went on sale yesterday at 10AM, and i was getting them for my friend danielle and i. i went online and called right at 10 and didn't get tickets!! gm place sold the fuck out in less than a minute!! i thought i was going to die. anywho, so i called my sister at work to whine to her, and she went online and somehow on her ticketmaster site, there was another show added the next night....so she hooked me up with tickets. they added a show people!! i shat my pants. and we have such good seats too, it's gonna be amazing. i was so excited to go to their show in 2003, but it turned out to be on the same night as my grad dinner/dance. it's a long time coming y'all.
yesterday i got back my urban geography paper that i wrote about the labour market and economic trends in vegas, and while he was handing them back, my prof was like "you need to come and see me as soon as possible, there's some concerns about sourcing." so this freaked me out...thought i forgot to footnote something or whatnot. anywho, so i go see him, and he says that my TA (who i've never met and marks all the papers) thought that i had plagiarized! she suspected it throughout the paper, but this one part in particular, where i give this verbal visual of the economic shit going on there (i've been there quite a few times). i was quite proud of it, cuz it sounded really good. but yeah, apparently we're not allowed to write well anymore, cuz certain dumb TAs will get confused and assume that we can't possibly write like that. my prof just asked me if i did or not...i think he recognized me by face but not by name, so when i talked to him he quickly believed me. so yeah, i was half complimented and half insulted. it's real risky business, this plagiarism thing. the consequences for it are so high (you get kicked out of the university, no ifs ands or buts) you'd think they'd have a better system for catching it. mind you, that's kind of impossible (except for turnitin.com, which doesn't seem completely effective anyways). i think the thing that bothers me the most is that TAs mark our papers. i understand it get be a bit much for profs, but i go to this school and pay a hell of a lot of money to take courses by these amazing profs. so when a HUGE part of the class (the grading) is done by some person that doesn't have even a fraction of the knowledge, experience, or teaching ability of the actual prof, it worries and annoys me. especially when we get up to 3rd and 4th year. it's like relying on a grade 12 student to mark grade 11 provincial exams. rant over.
my family also went and got our passport photos taken yesterday for our upcoming trip to india. i'm so stoked and can't wait....i've only been there once when i was 6. we're going all over too...punjab, agra, delhi, bombay, and goa. it's only 3 weeks, which is not nearly enough to see that much, but i gotta do the school thing. and what's up with this no-smiling business in the passport photos?? the pictures look like mugshots (priya's is the scariest, haha!!)
anywho, i should probably eat something. when i get up late, i don't get hungry 'till like 6 or 7 at night. weird.
