although not really if you average it out. I just woke up after sleeping 14 hours straight (with a couple bathroom breaks). dang being on the trauma service! I was on call Saturday so was pretty much at work from Sat 730am until sunday 1230pm and only got about 10 min of sleep the whole time. So, 14 hours isn't so much when you consider how many days that was really making up for. But, it's still insane. I need to schedule to have my day off soon... Trauma service is interesting. I think it's just my team that gets the really bad ones. I've been on call twice and each time, someone has died. Last night we had 3.5 gunshot victims (0.5 because we're not convinced this one guy actually got shot) not to mention a bunch of other people. One patient brought back some thoughts/memories of what could have happened to a family member and made me thankful that the person on the table, as horrible as the circumstances were, was some random person rather than someone I loved.
*sigh* Time to muddle up the energy to go back to work today, pre-call, get some work done, and then do it all again tomorrow. I have 3 weeks of trauma service. My residents have 6-8 weeks of trauma. I can't imagine how tired they are. After the team got beat yesterday, it'll be interesting to see how tired they continue to be today. I pretty much came home yesterday and crashed. I didn't even eat lunch or dinner and didn't even wake up from hunger pangs because I was so tired. The residents were locked in an 8 hour surgery so it was just the intern and myself left to handle the other patients that came in after they went in to deal with the really unstable guy. craziness.
