When I was a little kid, I loved to awake really early in the morning. Saturday mornings were special gifts from the cartoon gods and each ritual morning always left me particularly satisfied. Normally, I woke an hour before they started in the lieu of infomericials and world news, I deliciously hovered in the space between my Saturday morning marathon and the dark hour before sunrise. I could wear my mother's slippers, use my blanket as a shawl and mix my cereals so I usually ended up with a blend of Cheerios, Corn Pops & Raisin Bran (we weren't allowed the sugary stuff, we had to make do), sometimes Grape Nuts, which to my surprise as a kid tasted nothing like grapes or nuts.
In college I never slept and so often I shared my early morning ramblings with my best friend. Those days were always filled with coffee and cigarettes at The Grill.
But now, in the autumn of my 20's I have found that I like to sleep. I go to bed around midnight and awake around 6:30AM. For awhile I held onto those heady days of out-all-night rockstar lifestyle but in some finally acquired wisdom I realized what a waste of time it really all is. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kids is over. Of course there will be times, when I let it all go and try to run with the pack of pups again, but the truth be told, I love my mornings. I love getting out of bed, brewing coffee, reading the paper and listening to music...all before anyone else is awake. I can hear the siss-boom-bah of the garbage trucks ambling between streets .I can hear the purr of the pidgeys outside my window cooing back and forth to the other, gentling saying "Wake-up, wake-up, wake-up..." and puh-puh-puh away. So, I wake-up.
pidgeys,
mornings,
