Today I went to Nana's funeral (Lee's grandmother). Except this wasn't a funeral. I've always heard the phrase "celebration of life", but before today, I'd never witnessed it. There was more laughter than tears, and I don't think a single person there actually felt bad for her--we just miss her. It was incredible.
I'm so grateful for the "God parents" I've been given in Billy and Tammy Steele. They are wonderful. And I guess I'm glad Lee is willing to share a little :)
I think we should do away with the tradition of thank you notes for food, flowers, etc following a funeral. I saw three people who should be grieving and dealing with things spend hours today figuring out who sent what and who could provide them with an address for the thank you card. Sending food or flowers shouldn't lead one to expect a thank you card, and a death in the family is the last time anyone should spend time writing them. Wedding gifts, baby showers... sure. But not following a funeral.
If anyone ever asks, I want to be cremated.
Off to bed now so I can get up, go to work, then head BACK to Tuscaloosa tomorrow afternoon. Woohoo! (not)
